Summary

This essay is about how the life of an American is good and bad.

Benjamin Franklin once said, “Freedom is not a gift bestowed upon us by other men, but a right that belongs to us by the laws of God and nature.” What does it mean to be an American? For me, being an American is being free to go where you want and having a lot of responsibilities.

There are a lot of people that fought for freedom in the past. As an American, you can be free and go where you want without being bothered. An example of freedom is the right of U.S. citizens have to express their ideas and opinions. They also have freedom of speech and religion.

An American can also have a lot of responsibilities. For instance, like paying taxes, paying bills, and having to take care of their family. Responsibility is an obligation or duty.That means that if you don't do one of those responsibilities you might get in serious trouble. One example, if you don't pay insurance for your car and you crash,  your insurance company won't pay for the damages. Responsibility is an important part of being an American.

 When one considers the freedom Americans have and the responsibilities they have, it is clear to see that they're a real american. There are people all over the world that wish for the chance to be an American.
