Summary

My piece discusses the anti-migrant stigma that has re-developed in America.

In the year 1607, Colonists first landed in America, therefore becoming the first American Migrants. From then on any one who entered the country became a migrant. As America aged, so did the people and their views on migrants. The country that has been founded on migrants began to develop anti-migrant views. In the year 1880 America experienced its second immigration boom. The citizens who lived in America prior to the boom quickly developed anti-migrant views. They believed that they were true American citizens, and the people who had descended from migrants became anti-migrant. This was repeated through history, and is still being repeated to this day.

We as Americans are proud to live in the land of the free, but often don't realize that America is also home of the immigrant. We as Americas are descendants of migrants, our own families have stories of struggles involving immigration, and yet we believe that migrants are not as good as us. We have developed an us vs them mentality. This mental idea is causing hate to grow in the country and people to become more violent against migrants. America is the global melting pot that was founded on the basis of freedom; over time, America grew more diverse, and people began to celebrate these diversities. Then as the pattern of hate periods began to grow, so did the anti-migrant stigma. This stigma is has followed America through its history, and its worse today than ever before.

Migrants are coming to America not for our healthcare system, which is one of the worst compared to all other first world countries, they aren't coming to live off of our welfare system, because America again is ranked low in quality. They are coming to America to live freely, and enjoy the ability to make their own life decisions. People don't come to America to do nothing, or steal jobs, migrants come to make a better life for themselves and their families. These incoming migrants hope to establish a successful lineage like those of current American citizens. A family member creates a better life for the future generations to prosper. They simply want the same circumstances that our migrant ancestors had. A free and welcoming land, guided by liberty and equality, to accept them and embrace the culture that they bring.
