Summary

Trying to save our lives from the opposite party in Bangladesh

I am becoming an American. I was born in Bangladesh and I have been living in New York City for over five years.

Politics brought my family to America. Before I was born, my father, Mohammad Ullah was a big politician in the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP.) He was one of the most famous and a hard worker too. There have been fights between my father’s party and the Awami League from late-1975 until the present.

When the Awami League came in power, they started threatening my family and they started attacking too. One time that I remember was when I was about 12 years old, and there was thousands of people around my house ready to kill my father. After that the Bangladesh Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), who can shoot anytime they want and the Army came to save saved my father from getting attacked by Awami League members. It was a very scary night for my family and me.

My father decided to leave the country to save his life and our family in 2013. At the time there was thousands of people who wanted kill my father because he was key member of the BNP under the ex-prime minister, Khaleda Zia, who is now in jail.

We left my home country, Bangladesh in 2013 and came to America. This has changed our life a tremendous amount. e living a simple life like other people and my father was out of a big worry of losing his life. America gave us a lot of support by letting us stay in America.

We came to USA to save our lives from Bangladesh politics. Immigration changed my life in many ways. Most importantly, my life is much more safe now. My family structure has changed a lot. Before we used to live in big house now we live in a apartment building in a one bedroom house. These changes were positive because we can stay alive. And my family also gets better medication then we could get in our country because of lack of good doctors and better hospitals.

Immigration and refugees are one of the big issues in the U.S.A. The reason I care about immigrants and refugees is because there are a lot of people from other countries who have come from the U.S.A. to save their their lives, to have a better community, and to have a better, safe place to live in. I think it’s very important to justify why they came here, to find out who they were, what they used to do, and what brought them to the U.S.A. so that they can legally live here. We also need to learn if anybody can be harmful for the country and community, so they can be sent back to their country so that other people can be safe.
