Summary

My grandparents came from Russia in search of a better life for their family. They came to America to achieve freedom and follow the American Dream. Throughout their experience they have developed their own American Creed and now I have started to develop one as well.

People think that the American dream is to create a higher standard of living. I, however, would argue that with hard work and perseverance, even the highest of goals are achievable. My grandparents are proof that the dream is achievable. Both my grandparents immigrated from their homeland, Russia (the Soviet Union back then) in search for a better life for themselves and for their family. During the time of the Holocaust my great grandma escaped from the Nazis to try and find a safe place to raise her family. Later, there was an agreement between Russia and the United States to trade wheat for Jewish families trying to come to America. Lucky for me and my family, my grandparents were on that list. All they wanted to do was follow that American Dream and live a free life. As a result, my grandparents started to develop their own special American Creed. Bouncing off of my grandparents, developing their own American Creed, I have developed one of my own. As I talked about how my grandparents followed that American Dream I also believe in it. This is why I work very hard in and out of school. I think America is a place if I perceive and work hard I can make a better life for myself. My parents and grandparents push me to work very hard in school so I can get a good job when I grow up. They want me to use the education in America to my advantage because they were not able to have a good education in Russia. As a result of all this I am developing my own personal American Creed.

Nowadays people don’t take the time to appreciate what America offers them . Before my grandfather passed away, he told me to not take what I have for granted and to work very hard to achieve my goals. He said, “As long as you do, everything will be okay”. After he said that, I learned that American Creed can be seen mainly through the opportunity that Americans are offered. People can't be afraid to get their hands dirty when an obstacle comes up. They have to be able to get through the obstacle if they truly want to live the American dream. Some people think that the government will solve all of these problems, but they can't. They will have to solve some of their problems alone. The American dream is the heart and soul of this country. The American dream is what makes you, you. Living in America can change many lives and provide many opportunities. People are free to live a happy life alongside their brothers and sisters. They can take on any task they put their mind to because no one can stop anyone in this free country. Nothing will come if people don’t try to accomplish it. That’s one of the beauties about this country though. The fact that people are able to accomplish their goals, through hard work and dedication. To be American, means as long as someone is willing to put in the work, they can be whatever they want to be, and do whatever they want to do. At the end of the day the ideology of the American dream differs based on the person, but one common goal that everyone strives for is developing their own American creed.
