Kay's story of feeling betrayed.

By Dylan B. from Arcata High School in California

Kay

“I was just starting middle school. There was a big event at our school and a lot of families were there to support their kids and stuff because it was a performance sort of thing it was like dancing. I had my first girlfriend at the time I had only come out to a select few people, and one of those people, one of my grandmothers, wanted to take a picture of me and my first girlfriend, which made sense. So I posed for the picture but another family member had witnessed me posing for that picture with my girlfriend at the time, and she ended up telling my dad that I had a girlfriend. That pretty much outed me to my dad before I was mentally ready and I didn’t find out until I was in a car on the drive home a few days later. I would say that it stung pretty bad, because well I knew that I would always have my father's acceptance, that was my moment and it shouldn’t have been taken from me like that."
