Independent letter to the editor

Letter to the editor of The Independent

By Brooke H. from Zuni High School in New Mexico

Dear Independent Readers,

Domestic violence in Zuni is a critical issue that must be effectively dealt with. Every day, Zuni wives and children are being beaten up. Through anger management counseling, this issue should be seriously dealt with, and not minimized.

Many people in Zuni are victims of domestic violence as well as other types of violence. I would suggest that every 4 days, men and women who have anger issues should get mental health/anger management counseling. After taking classes men and women will know how to cope and not take out their anger on others such as children and wives.

The fact is that many of the families of Zuni are presently struggling with severe domestic violence that is out of control. The high volume of domestic violence incidents in Zuni suggest that now is the time for us to make serious efforts aimed at changing this behavior. I believe that anger management counseling should be widely publicized, and made more accessible in Zuni.
