Digital Arts Program at Zuni High School
A digital arts program in Zuni Public School District would help students embrace art and technology of the 21st century and help students be more employable after high school.
Although traditional Zuni art has been the heart of all our art programs it has hardly progressed into the modern world. There is, however, a way that we can keep Zuni art alive while also exploring new horizons as well, this being a digital arts program. This program will help expand, better, and blend new and old styles of art from all over the world in our school. Zuni needs a digital arts program.
By implementing a digital arts program into Zuni high school, like mentioned before, would allow Zuni art to not only survive but thrive. What I mean by this is that art can be digitally made, and archived in order to preserve it longer than if it were a physical piece. This digital preservation would then intern allow a wider showcase of our art better than what we have now. Since our world has been evolving and changing into a digital one, art also needs to evolve in order to survive. Like a living organism, art cannot remain the same throughout time, it must evolve in order to survive in its environment.
Another motive to having a digital arts program is allowing those who don’t want to do traditional art to do something else. This would allow non-Zuni students and individuals not interested in traditional art to be able to participate in art related activities/programs. I find myself in this situation, although I am Zuni, I am not interested in doing traditional art. This program would allow me to do art I actually want to do, something that I am interested in, instead of doing art for a grade. A digital arts program would give myself and others to express ourselves in different ways other than traditional art.
Lastly, implementing a digital arts program would allow students to experience different cultures from around the world. Allowing us to connect with others, would give students different perspectives on art and our world around us through the internet. Like mentioned before, art, like an organism, needs to evolve in order to survive, but it also needs diversity. Without diversity, art will not change. This new blend of art would also give rise to jobs as well, allowing many artists at our school to be able to apply for modern jobs.
In conclusion, Zuni needs a digital arts program. This could be done by first suggesting the idea to the principal. Next gathering a group of students together that would also be on board with this idea, also pushing for the program while potentially fundraising for necessary software and equipment for the class such as Drawing tablets and digital applications. After getting approval from higher-ups, we would then find a teacher willing to teach the class. Lastly would be finding showcases such as the Heard Museum that we could participate in and sell our art.
