Modern Day Racism

I wrote about modern day racism and gave examples of how it effects me and my peers.

A lot of people think racism just disappeared after slavery ended but that’s not the case. The stereotypes and slurs are still around now in 2022 and I feel they are getting worse by the minute. Modern day racism can be from small statements against a community like slurs such as the b slur towards some Hispanics or race to even large acts of hate and spite such as spitting on African Americans or refusing to serve them.

There are a lot of examples of modern day racism but here are a few. A few years ago in a small town a group of softball players decided they wanted to torment an African American student. They made a group chat and planned to lynch the student. The main student involved had connections with the government of the small town and the police officers so they never really got in trouble for it. Another example would be from my personal experience. When I was younger my mother, my siblings and I were in a store. We were shopping quietly and minding our own business when we realized the store worker was sort of watching/following us. My mom noticed before us but she didn’t say anything. We went close to the back of the store and we were whispering because of how quiet it was in the store. We started realizing she was watching us and we bought our stuff and left. This was one of my earliest memories of racism towards me.
