Summary

Wyler Boys and Girls Club members a sense of community and a voice in the world

Boys and Girls Club of Greater Cincinnati

The BGCGC, as mentioned, is often referred to as a voice to the youth; yet do you know exactly how the BGCGC does it?

"To enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens."
(BGC's of America website, https://www.bgca.org/about-us/...). This is what is provided as the mission of BGC's of America- But how does this apply to the youth today?

First of all, you might be a little confused. BGCGC (meaning Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Cincinnati) and Boys and Girls Clubs of America aren't exactly the same thing. BGCGC is specific to Cincinnati, making it local to the area.

As for how BGC gives the youth a voice along with helping us to become responsible and educated citizens, there are different programs that they offer. Fit For Life, a gym program much like a school, is meant to teach youth a healthy way to look at and partake in physical activity and even making it enjoyable for the participant- an important step in keeping ourselves healthy that youth often struggle with.

Ready to Serve is a program meant to help the youth give back to the community, but also might help kids realize that not everyone gets to wear the same shoe.

The Graduate Program prepares high school students for college, with help and insight on what college to choose or what would be a good major. I even know a couple kids who want to go to a trade school and want to work in construction. An interesting subject in and of itself.

One final thing I want to share with you is the sense of community it gives. I’ve met many, many people who relate with me through the Boys and Girls club- something I haven’t really been able to have just through school. It’s one of the most important things to me and Wyler BGC has helped that become my reality.
