Summary

You should go to the Connecticut River–it is cool!

The Connecticut River starts in New Hampshire and ends in the Long Island Sound. It’s the longest river in New England and it runs right through my town of South Hadley, Massachusetts. People fish in the Connecticut River, and they kayak and boat on the river. The Connecticut River is an interesting river.

The Connecticut River is 410 miles long. IIt sometimes floods because of heavy rain. The flooding hurts farms, trees, and houses. There is a flood sign marker on Route 47 that shows all the levels of how high the water got during major flood years, the highest was 15 feet in 1936. People fish in the Connecticut River because there are many species of fish. I would like to fish there. Birds, like eagles, fish on the Connecticut River for food. There are also major dams on the river. One of the dams is in South Hadley by the town library. It was built in 1920 to make electric power. We went inside the dam in third grade on a field trip. It was very noisy inside. We saw the fish ladder bring fish up and down the dam.

The Boathouse is on the Connecticut River in South Hadley. It is a restaurant, and it has good food, and I think you would enjoy it. The Boathouse is at Brunelle’s Marina, where you can put in boats and take boats out. Many people like boating there because when you’re done boating or fishing, you can eat at The Boathouse. I love their fries! I remember having football practice at the beachgrounds near the Connecticut River. The river was flooding and we couldn’t go down to the river because the water was going too fast! You should go to the Connecticut River–it is cool! I really like to eat at The Boathouse and watch the boats go by because it’s so cool!
