Racial Poverty Differences
Summary
Dear President Joe Biden
Did you know that colored people live more in poverty than white people? Does that seem fair to you? Do you think it’s right to say we live in an equal country even though these things are still happening? I don’t think so. We need change so people of color can finally live in a place where nothing and nobody judges you or biased towards your skin color. So maybe then we can live in a country that has true equality. While the current way of handling poverty differences of race appears agreeable, on a larger level it’s still problematic because we can achieve true inequality within our country. As a country, we can solve this problem by setting up feudal funding for people of color so they can support themselves and their families until they get a job.
My Chromebook was lagging so that is why I just started with the red
When it comes to the issue of poverty differences within a race, colored kids are more likely to live in impoverished circumstances than white people. Jennifer L Bratter, an associate professor of sociology at Rice University and the director of the Program for the Study of Ethnicity, Race, and Culture (PSERC) stated. “Relative to the children of White single mothers, many children of color, particularly Black and Latino children, are more likely to live in impoverished circumstances (Lichter et al., 2005)”(Bratter.) This makes me think why kids have to go through things just because of the color of their skin. Why do kids have to suffer for not even doing anything? This is important because it shows how unfair it is to be a person of color. This all demonstrates that there are race poverty differences in our country.
Experts believe that black people are unemployment is twice the white people’s unemployment rate. According to the “Marriage, Work, and Racial Inequalities in Poverty: Evidence From the United States” Brain C Thiede reports that “For instance, the current unemployment rate among Black adults is more than twice the White unemployment rate, and earnings among Black workers are only 60% of what their White counterparts earn (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2016)” (Thiede.).This makes me think people don’t care about me and others. I feel like it is unfair how colored people have to work harder than white people. This is important because it shows a good example of poverty differences among races. This highlights how we need to solve racial poverty differences.
A large component of Race poverty differences is that about half of monoracial color children were poor. Jeniffer L Bratter article, “Poverty at a Racial Crossroads: Poverty Among Multiracial Children of Single Mothers,” says “More than half of monoracial Black, American Indian/Alaska Native, and Hispanic children lived at or below the poverty line, and more than 40% of monoracial children of Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander and Some Other Race backgrounds were poor.” (Bratter) Why are colored people have such a high chance of becoming poor? This makes me think that government does not care about us. This is important because it shows a great example of poverty differences. This shows the reason why we need to fix poverty differences in race.
Another reason why to implement race poverty differently is that colored kids have more of a chance to grow up with a single parent instead of two parents. Once again stated by Brian C Thiede, expresses that “Black (55%) and Hispanic children (31%) are far more likely to live with only a single parent when compared with White children (21%; Vespa, Lewis, & Kreider, 2013). The material implications of these differences are clear in recent estimates that show a poverty rate of 6.2% Black (55%) and Hispanic children (31%) are far more likely to live with only a single parent when compared with White children (21%; Vespa, Lewis, & Kreider, 2013). The material implications of these differences are clear in recent estimates that show a poverty rate of 6.2%” (Thiede.) This most likely leads the parent and child into poverty since there is only one person working and providing. Why does the parent have to work even harder so they can provide food, water clothing, and other needs for them. And child This evidence expresses the idea that we need to solve this problem.
In conclusion, we need to solve race poverty differences. The reason why we need to fix this problem first over other problems in our country is that this defeats the purpose of our country’s definition of having total equality. This will also cause more division in our country. My solution for this problem is to set up federal funding for colored people that are in poverty so that they can get an education, support themselves and their families. You need to listen to me because imagine if you’re a person in color. How would you feel that you or even your children have more of a chance to live in poverty than white people? As a mix of black and Ecuadorian myself, I don’t want my family, friends, or anybody else to have an unfair life just because of the color of their skin. I want everyone to be proud of their skin color
Sincerely
Isaiah
