Our Democracy

My post is on what I think Democracy is and something that I have seen that shows my thoughts.

By Haley F. from Eureka High School in California

Democracy to me is when a group of people, a community, gets aligned and helps each other. They don’t let each other down and work to benefit their group and people that may not be their immediate community.

This photo shows democracy because we brought people together. There is a community of people all around the world that are Martial Artists. We wanted to share with others, and that’s why we decided to teach basic defensive moves. It also shows democracy because we wanted what would be the most beneficial for the people who came. If you don’t fight, offensive moves will not be useful. But if someone is attacking, having some moves in your back pocket is good.

Our Democracy

The Our Democracy Education Project is a partnership with the National Writing Project and PhotoWings. PhotoWings' mission is to help photography to be better understood, created, utilized, seen, and saved. The project is also supported by the National Geographic Society and Catchlight, and explores the question, “What does democracy look like?” through the creation of a multimedia record of the state of local, everyday democracy today.
