Mark Bingham: A Hero to Remember
To the family of Mark Bingham,
Your son was a very brave, bright, creative, intelligent, and athletic man. I read in class this year that was a rugby champion and his birthday was on May 22, 1970 in Phoenix, AZ. On 9/11, Flight 93 was headed for the capital of Washington D.C. but an incredible group of heroes saved many people on the ground and sadly crashed the plane in a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. One of those heroes was Mark Bingham. The passengers and crew thought of the idea to fight back against the terrorists and took action in 20 minutes. This flight was not the only flight that had been hijacked that day. The other flight numbers were Flight 11, which hit the North Twin Tower and Flight 175 hit the South Twin Tower. Another flight, Flight 77, hit the Pentagon. There were 2,977 people killed in the United States on 9/11 because of the terrorists. This terrible situation did eventually lead to war. Flight 93 was the first victory against terrorists. Flight 93 was, in fact, a delayed flight. The famous quote of Flight 93 was said by Todd M Beamer who said “Are you guys ready? Ok. Let’s roll.” The plane was originally headed for Washington D.C., The plane crashed into the ground at about 580 mph and was carrying 7,000 gallons of fuel. There is a memorial for the heroes who fought back, which is in Somerset County, Pennsylvania. I’m very sorry for your loss of Mark. He will always be remembered as a hero in the history of America. Losing a loved one like this must be very hard, but Mark might have been in the right place when many people needed a hero.
Sincerely,
Bailey Dingess
