Two unlikely collaborators, Pulitzer Prize‐winning historian David M. Kennedy and former US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice team up to investigate the idea of a unifying American creed. Their thorny, cross‐partisan inquiry frames the stories of activists striving to realize their own visions of America’s promise across deep divides.
Through its stories, set in a range of big cities, small towns, and rural areas around the country, the documentary program American Creed wrestles with:
- questions of immigration and assimilation
- the dwindling economic prospects of many people in a nation that aspires to opportunity for all
- the notion that individual ambition and achievement can raise up communities
- the meaning of citizenship and the challenge of meaningful civic participation and dialogue.
