My American Creed

My piece is going to be about my dad raising me and my 3 siblings as a single parent.

By Anniston C. from Scott County High School in Kentucky

Most kids or teens are raised by either both parents or a mother, but it's different for me and my siblings, we have been raised by our dad. Some think that it's different or unusual to be raised by my dad, but I don't know any different. My dad and mom split up when I was a baby so I don't know what it's like to be raised by two parents. It's mostly been just me, my brother, sisters, and my dad. We haven't had a step-mom or anything, so I am just used to it being us. I was with my mom on every other weekend when I was around 7, but she wasn't fit to see us anymore.

We have had our ups and downs as a family, considering the fact there is three girls, and one boy, and my dad. As being girls, me and my sisters, there is some things you can't go to your dad about but we have to and most of the time he understands and we get through it. It's hard being raised by just a dad because as most people know dad's can be a lot more strict than mom's especially when he is raising 3 girls and a boy.

There has been mother figures in and out of our lives, but nothing permanent so far. I think my dad has done a good job at raising 4 kids as a single parent. He works 7 days a week to take care of us and provide for us. Even though I don't say it everyday I am thankful for everything he does and has done for us all these years and more to come.
