Summary

I wrote a letter to the author about my experience reading this book.

Dear Shing Yin Khor,

My experience reading the book was great. I liked the setting and the characters. One thing that stood out to me was when Hao was fired from his job because it showed how important Hao was to those working there. After Hao was fired all kinds of things were happening like lumberjacks quitting because foods were bad and other things. But also I think it was important because it changed Hel and now the white and Chinese workers could eat together so things are more equal.

At first, I thought Sam getting hurt was a bad idea because I didn't know how Sam getting hurt would help the story progress and develop but after rereading it I understood how it was an important part of the story. The story was well written and nothing needed to be changed. The ending of the book was a good way to end the story. In the future, I would like to see a continuation of this book. If you are going to write a continuation of this book is it going to be about them in the future and chasing their dreams?

Some questions I have are what happened to Mei's mom because the book never mentioned anything about her mom and only mentioned Hao's parents.
