Summary

I really enjoyed this book, We Are Not Free. It is about Japanese kids during the 1940's war. It shows the struggle and perseverance of those trapped.

This book, We Are Not Free, was sad but important to read. People died, kids went to war, and unfair laws broke out. However, these 14 Japanese - American kids broke through the hardship and unfairness that they faced at that time. Some had dads in prison far away and some had moms that were sick and in the hospital. Whatever it was they all had each other and made it work. I recommend this book to other middle schoolers because even though it was sad, this book was also very well written (through 14 kids) and very important for young kids to learn these days.
