Furthermore, the reason why social media portrays a big part in this issue is because it is main root of the problem since most if not all teenagers are in on this. They are addicted to using their phone for social media. Since this issue happened teachers have been recognizing a difference in some of their students, such as their behavior, they seemed bothered, and uneasy. Kids that would speak out in class no longer did, they reverted back to their silent ways. “Teachers at the high school had almost no idea what was going on. A few saw a sample of the posts on the phones of their students. Many saw signs of distress in their classrooms or in the corridors.” (119). Since then these students have found it very difficult to stay on track for school and continue to learn academically while knowing a whole instagram account is hating on them simply because of their skin color and identity. The students that were targeted by the memes posted on instagram felt embarrassed, and outraged, making it difficult for them to stay on task during class time and be able to fully participate in group discussions or with their peers.

Ultimately, this student at Albany High school did not even feel safe to step foot out her house since she was so scared, and dehumanized, “Andrea didn't even want to go outside. In the house she was safe. Invisible.”(281, Slater). In my opinion I feel as though this book truly did open my eyes since racism is still a big problem in our world right now. Andrea not feeling safe to even leave her home is something that should've never happened to her in high school. This just shows how this affected her as well as the others that went through the same thing. Andrea being uncomfortable to walk out of her own house and go to school again is a feeling that many teenagers now are struggling with because of social media or just because school is too much for them at the moment. Feeling safe at school or in class is something everyone should be feeling.
