I believe “Instructions for Dancing” by Nicola Yoon should win the California book award. This book took me on a beautiful adventure of a teenage girl afraid of love and then opening up again to accept her feelings once more. It incorporates the day-to-day struggles of a teenage life that makes readers feel a connection toward Evie. But then we have her dancing life on the side with her love visions that get people hooked on the book. Then we just have the unique love story between “X” and Evie that make readers keep turning the pages! This book truly did touch my heart and kept me yearning for more and the ending left me satisfied and showed how much Evie has grown throughout the story. And in a way, I’m proud of a fictional character.
