Students analyzed poetry focusing on structure, literary devices, and theme, using the book Legacy: Women Poets of the Harlem Renaissance by Nikki Grimes, a collection and response to female Harlem Renaissance poets.

Title means that we're taking notice of what happened during the Harlem Renaissance. A metaphor is something not literal. The metaphors in the poem Taking notice are being used to describe what the speaker is observing and how the speaker is feeling. Which creates a strong emotion while reading the poem and paints a picture. The structure of the poem is A B C D E F G. The two themes in the poem are finding beauty in the small things and observing things throughout our everyday lives.
