Our Democracy

How my image means Democracy to me.

By Clark G. from Eureka High School in California

This image represents democracy to me especially because it says every voice matters. That is part of how democracy works. Everyone has a right to be heard and vote on who they think should lead. I think it is a very good thing for this country. If we didn't have democracy people would revolt against their governments because they didn't want to take orders from them anymore. This image also depicts the American flag that represents our country. The ballot going into the box is also an American flag which also represents faith for our country. This image is making voting look good for people to do and trying to get people to vote which people should. This image isn't just showing that voting is good but that everyone who is able to should vote. Not everyone is going to get the leader they want when they vote because one side has to win but that is democracy. Democracy is everyone getting to state their own opinion about what they want for this country.

Our Democracy

The Our Democracy Education Project is a partnership with the National Writing Project and PhotoWings. PhotoWings' mission is to help photography to be better understood, created, utilized, seen, and saved. The project is also supported by the National Geographic Society and Catchlight, and explores the question, “What does democracy look like?” through the creation of a multimedia record of the state of local, everyday democracy today.
