Summary

I wrote this op-ed to encourage everyone to help out other people

Not everyone has the same opportunities that you have had throughout your life! While we some people are set up well for a good life, along the way everyone meets people that are very intelligent, but one way or another are deprived of the equality that America has advertised along with being whatever you want to be, and most of the time it is not their fault. They were mainly either born into a poor family, or Lady Luck has just not been on their side. There is something that we can do to help others out. A very important lesson is that you can do whatever you want to do in your life, but you cannot leave others behind.

Condoleezza Rice’s grandfather was the one who created and lived by this quote. His family and friends came from a very poor background. When her grandfather graduated high school he went to college and became a priest. He went back to Birmingham Alabama where he founded a black church. He was very generous and kind, as he was helping out his friends and family go to college and never stopped helping anyone during his life. He became an inspiration to many people including Condoleezza, has lived a very long and fulfilling life.

The most important part about this quote is the word others. For years people have thought about themselves rather than others. People have become more and more selfish over the years and have passed up on opportunities to help others because they are thinking of themselves, such as buying an ice cream instead of donating a little pocket change to a homeless person. Or playing video games for 12 hours instead of volunteering for some amount of time. There are many instances that we think of ourselves over others.

We have been helped out so many times in our lives by so many people, and we have not done anything to help them in return. There are countless amount of people that we don’t give enough credit, but the people that get the least amount of help and respect are our parents. Our parents have brought us into the world, fed, clothed, and have given us a home during our lives. They always love us no matter what, and have given us so many things, and we usually don’t given them any help in return or even a thank you. If there is anyone that we should help and not leave behind it’s our parents.

Throughout our lives we have been given so much help we have never really thought about giving back. There are many things that we can do to give back, such as volunteering at a local food bank, or helping a friend go to college. We can also donate to charity among many other things. The list of things others done for us is countless, and to say thank you we help out in return, and not leave others behind.
