American Creed
Summary
I feel as though individuals say a lot more and harsher things, but they take no action with them, because they have no real reason to. We as a people should really mean what we say more often - I feel as though our language has gotten almost too ambiguous to say anything for sure, to figure out the intent someone has. It's important to do this as a people because action changes things for the better more often than not.
You can see this in a lot of places, most notably on social media sites, or just the internet in general. People say things and never actually act on them. I'm not saying they should act on everything they say, but so many people say way too much and do way too little. It's great that you're "spreading awareness" and all that, but what are you actually doing? We see and hear so much nowadays, why should what a random internet stranger said matter way more?
In order to do anything, you really need to take action. The only way anything has actually gotten done is by taking action. Take for example the Russo-Ukranian war. People say all the time to "stand with Ukraine" but it hasn't done much. Saying that doesn't feed or clothe soldiers. But a government aid package of 60 billion USD will do a lot more. Orders of magnitude more. Granted, this is a slightly cherry picked example, but you can see this in many other places. And of course, some people's voices "matter" more than others, like senators. And there's just not that much you can do about that. But a lot of people can take action that have big consequences, bad or good. And that action has to be supported by the people. Yes, they can say they support it, but what matters is actually showing up to the protests, signing petitions, etc. Something that has real meaning.
My personal proposal doesn't actually matter all that much, considering I'm just putting it in words - something I've been bashing this entire essay. I do plan to take action later in life when I actually have some money and relations to wield. And that's partially what it comes down to as well. You need one or the other for real change. Resources or people. Usually both. And that's one of the great parts of our country. You need the support of other people to pass your agenda, which helps to involve and help more people, as well as moderate your own policy to be more cooperative.
Anyways, if I had to give some word of a proposal, I would say that if you have read this far, just try to do more of what you say you will. This nation doesn't need any more people screaming. It needs people to sit down, listen, plan, and act for a better future.
