My American Creed
Summary
To me, American Creed is a blend of people from different backgrounds and with different personalities coming together to become a conjoined community. In this community they find diversity, service, freedom, and happiness, which I believe to be the fundamentals of American society.
Diversity-
America is a melting pot of people from all different backgrounds. Having people from all different backgrounds helps open ended conversation flow. Different backgrounds nurture different opinions on topics like politics. It is important for people in America to have differing opinions because it will keep the democracy running smoothly. Inclusion is important and necessary in a widely diverse community. It makes people feel at home to see others like them who may be immigrants or who come from other backgrounds.
Service-
While service helps others in your community who are struggling, it also gives you a sense of purpose and belonging. This belonging brings people together under the American spirit. Helping others through service is important because we all go through tough times. Service is putting aside your differences and helping your neighbors, knowing that one day they may do the same for you. This dependency on your neighbors and close knit community you build is a huge part of what America is built on.
Freedom-
Freedom can take many forms. In America you are given the freedom to speak your mind. You can say what you want when you want. We also have the freedom of religion. The freedom to go to any store or restaurant. These freedoms embody what America was created for. In other countries, people who speak up against the government are silenced. In America the people’s voices are welcome, heard and considered.
Happiness-
If people take care of their neighbors, speak their minds, and welcome each other's differences, a fourth level of American ideals can be achieved. This is happiness. America was founded on the idea of pursuing happiness. Becoming free, and achieving a fulfilling life is the true american dream.
When we put all of these ideals together, we find that being American offers you liberties, opportunities, and a sense of fulfillment.
