They say we’re all created equal,
With rights that shine like stars —
But I walk halls where whispers weigh
Heavier than the scars.

They say this land is freedom’s home,
But I’ve seen freedom bleed,
For some it’s just a word they teach,
For others, their life depends.

I’ve watched others be lied on,
While others breeze right through,
I’ve heard the jokes, the looks, the lies —
Things “Good Americans” shouldn’t do.

They say hard work will earn respect,
But I’ve seen doors stay closed,
To people fighting twice as hard,
But never getting close to those who don’t.

I believe in what could be,
In voices loud and true,
In change that starts with honesty,
And hearts that push it through.

My creed is not just stars and stripes,
But the truth with open eyes —
That we must face what’s really happening
To live what we idealize.
