My American Creed
Summary
A poem about honoring and understanding the past, yet having the drive and ability to change for a better future.
Honor the past, live for the future
Remember the history made
We must not let it fade
But leaning on the past
Will not make our country last
For the present has become scrambled
People trying to prevent what has spiraled
Hatred, Judgment, and shame
Words people frequently seen in this American game
A war overseas, we shouldn't be involved in
Doesn't it all seem so dystopian
Representatives who don't seem to care
This has now begun to wear
It is up to the community to build again
To build friends
Change and adjust for the better
To clean up what has shattered
The moment we realize this sooner
Then, will we have a better future
My American Creed sees the past
I understand why it couldn't last
My American Creed is living in the present
Wishing it could repent
Wishing it could persevere
But only if we all volunteer
My American Creed must be treasured
My American Creed can see a better future
