Summary

I want the track back so I can run laps, and so people can train and get in shape for other sports or for good health.

My topic was located at 153 Newton Street, South Hadley, Massachusetts which is the high school. The track was built over 70 years ago, and was removed about 10 years ago when the town converted the field from grass to turf. I and other people are upset that they didn’t put in a new track when they updated the South Hadley High School (SHHS) field. I believe they could have put the track around the field by taking down the fence that is there right now and extending it out more to fit the track. My topic is to bring back the SHHS track around the field because that would be a “W” (W means win).

The old track was not a nice one, it was made out of grey and black trap rock and it was hard to run on. A fun fact, my auntie Meghan set the women's 300M lowes (hurdles) in 1999 with a time of 50.2 seconds that still stands today as far as we know. They put a nice turf field in for all sports like football, lacrosse, field hockey and soccer for high school athletes and youth teams, which is nice but they left out the track and field team and people in town who walk for exercise.

In conclusion, I want the track back so I can run laps and so people can train and get in shape for other sports or for good health. Also, the high school students who don’t have a license could walk to track practice instead of finding a ride or walking a long way to Mount Holyoke College. Having the track at the high school would bring more students and families to the track and field meets to support the SHHS track and field team. For all these reasons, that’s why I feel they should bring back the track around the South Hadley High School field. And if they do this, it would be dope.

As a former runner who now mostly walks for exercise, and a mother of track athletes, I agree that a good track is good for the whole community.
