Humans of Sophomore Honors: Kairi

For my Sophomore Honors English class, I interviewed Ashley about a childhood memory that stuck with her.

By Kairi from Eureka High School in California

“I remember everything that I felt this one night. My dad and I got home like- he picked me up from like pre-school. He worked late nights, and we needed to get the mail. It was raining so hard. There was hail and everything it was horrible. I don’t know- my dad was such a teenage character in my life. He was really immature but I loved that about him. So uh- we ran to the mailbox just completely drenched. It was freezing. My mom was so upset with us but she was smiling because she knew that was going to be like- a memory that would stick with me. And it did.”

Our Democracy

The Our Democracy Education Project is a partnership with the National Writing Project and PhotoWings. PhotoWings' mission is to help photography to be better understood, created, utilized, seen, and saved. The project is also supported by the National Geographic Society and Catchlight, and explores the question, “What does democracy look like?” through the creation of a multimedia record of the state of local, everyday democracy today.
