American Creed
Summary
I choose to express my American Creed through action and service because it is every citizen's responsibility to not sit idly by when they know they can help change something for the better.
I have believed this my entire life. In 6th grade I participated in the Army Educational Outreach Programs E’CyberMission. Our team of three girls decided that water pollution through laundry gray water contaminated with micro plastic was something we needed to address. Trial and error led us to create a system that was accessible for most everyone instead of marketing some sort of expensive product. With the use of household items, we put hair curlers inside a rubber dog toy, this attracted micro plastics to stick and be removed from the gray water. Our team made the national cut and was able to present our work to the national judges in Washington DC. This care for my community did not end with this project.
I have been in Boy Scouts since 2019 when women were allowed to join. As an eagle scout I think it is my responsibility to use my knowledge to help my community. My eagle project was not just for show, but is continuing to serve a purpose in my community by stimulating safer boating. For my project I constructed a wooden structure with a type two and a type four PFD throw bag with 35 ft of line. The structure also has signs advising where it is safe to swim and has signs explaining basic water rescue. This structure is cared for and maintained by Sea Scout Ship 41, which I am also a part of, out of Bay Boat Club. My American Creed is work and service to better my community and to be a steward of our area because I believe it is our duty to do better.
