My American Creed
Summary
How do words, symbols, or rituals express the American Creed? I think the American Creed can be expressed through words like equality and justice, symbols like the Statue of Liberty, and rituals like the Pledge of Allegiance.
I think that words like equality and justice exemplify the American Creed because America provides and stands for equal rights and liberties to everyone, no matter what gender or race. If there is discrimination, justice can be provided and people will be protected under the law. Equality and justice are key ideals that root down to the very government America stands on. Some countries don't have equal rights and justice for their citizens, but the United States does. That is why I think equality and justice are crucial words that perfectly express America.
The Statue of Liberty is a symbol that expresses the American Creed because it stands for freedom. The statue was given to America after the Civil War by France and it symbolizes freedom for the people and the mutual desire for that freedom. Not only does the Statue of Liberty symbolize freedom but it also symbolizes opportunity and hope. Because of this newfound freedom, immigrants arriving in America had the opportunity to make a living for themselves in hope of living their American Dream.
The ritual of the Pledge of Allegiance expresses the American Creed to me because in school, students recite the Pledge of Allegiance in the morning. This gives people a strong sense of nationalism because students in every state do this. Reciting this causes a sense of unity for American people and is why I think that it represents the American Creed and expresses it well.
