My American Creed
No one American Creed will be exactly alike. All of our creed will revolve around different issues and different ideals. I think that this perfectly incapsulates the idea that America is the land of the free. The first thing that pops into my head when I think about the American dream is an orange creamsicle, the Fourth of July, and fireworks. When I think deeper into the American dream I think it revolves more around the idea that this is the land of opportunity, equality, and a feeling of ambition. My American Creed revolves around the fact that progress comes from not only personal belief but the power to create change in the land that gives you the rights to do so.
January 1st, 1892; the first immigrant passes through Ellis Island. Annie Moore came to America from Ireland in hopes to begin a new life, a life she’s always dreamed of, she was only 17 years old. She became the first of over 12 million immigrants to start new lives in America. This ideal is still echoed today. Over 12 million people chose to come to America, not because the felt like the wanted a switch up but because they truthfully believed that America was the land of opportunity. They were completely right. America quickly became a place where people knew they could come to feel not only safe but find success. Albert Einstein immigrated to America to later find immense scientific success, Charlie Chaplin immigrated to America to then find immense entertainment success, and the same went for Harry Houdini.
Our generation has had the ability to show these ideals that we can use our own powers to advance us and get us where we want to be in a land where we have nothing but opportunities. Bay is very good at setting us up to be successful and go to college and get our degrees and make change. Living through a pandemic has also showed us that we can do anything we put our minds to. All in all, to me my American Creed is that we have all the power and all the autonomy to make waves of change in our nation and our nation gives us every opportunity to do so.
