Summary

Nikki Grimes Poem "Prelude" visual poertry analysis. Assignment includes images that connects to the poem. Determined literaly devices, themes, and structure of the poem to understand the messages the author was trying to convey.

Prelude can mean if you break it in part pre-before and lude-medicine. Maybe she wasn’t feeling well and instead of getting better and doing something for herself didn’t work out. A metaphor is comparing two unlike things directly. The metaphors that are being compared here are thoughts and lava. She explains in her poem how her thoughts can not be molded together to create something beautiful or wonderful. It can be that we have beautiful dreams but like lava it doesn’t help shape it into beautiful dreams. We can think and believe but some dreams can’t always be molded into the world for us. Until lava freezes and stops it can create something beautiful. The rhyme structure is all different does not follow patern. The theme is sometimes our thoughts don’t happen as we plan. Our thoughts don’t take us everywhere unless we actually do something about it.
