Summary

Racism is a big problem the world faces that they can solve but haven't yet.

A current problem our world faces is racism. Racism has been going on since the 1500s. Racism is when a person treats another person differently because of their race and/or beliefs. We can solve this problem by working together and getting to know a person before we judge them.

Back in the 1500s, people owned people and called them slaves. Slaves did chores like picking cotton and much more. If they did something wrong they would also get beaten with a whip. On January 1, 1863, President Lincoln freed the slaves but racism still didn't stop. For example December 1st, 1995 They tried to get Rosa Parks to move out of a seat in the front end of the bus and go to the back because of her race and just because she refused to get up she got arrested. Another more recent example is George Flyod's death, he was murdered by police in Minneapolis, Minnesota because a store clerk suspected that he gave a counterfeit $20 bill because of his race.

One last event that happened in the city of Johnstown was in 1923 there was a real serious shooting of 4 police officers because of that event the mayor of Johnstown (Mayor Joseph Cauffiel) made every African American and/or Mexican that hasn't lived in the city for more than seven years to leave. The mayor gave them less than a day to move or they would either be jail time or face crippling fines and were forced out by gunpoint. That’s just 4 examples but there are many more.
