American Creed
“How do words, symbols, or rituals express the American Creed?”
Symbols express the American Creed by representing the American values of freedom, equality, and unity. The American flag represents liberty and unity by symbolizing the original colonies and the states through its stripes and stars. The bald eagle, which became a national symbol in 1782, stands for strength, independence, and power in the United States. The Statue of Liberty symbolizes freedom and opportunity. With the Statue of liberty being right by Ellis Island, it has been a welcoming symbol to immigrants pursuing the American Dream. The Liberty Bell also represents freedom and independence. It was rung on July 8th, 1776 to symbolize America's independence. It is also a symbol of justice, being a prominent symbol for abolitionists. Overall, symbols express the American Creed by representing core values of the U.S.
