Summary

My piece is about what it means to be an American.

“It doesn’t matter where you came from, it matters where you’re going,” Condoleezza Rice once said. America is the land of unlimited opportunity. Being an American, means that as long as you work hard, you can carve your own future path. Being an American gives you freedom, but with freedom comes responsibility.

To begin with, being an American means that you get the freedom to carve your own future path. As long as you work hard, you get freedom to what you want when you grow up. For example, Jim Carey grew up in poverty living in a tent, but he grew up to be a successful actor making millions of dollars. Jim Carey worked hard, and that paid off.

Furthermore, being an American means that get you a lot of freedom. With freedom, comes responsibility. American laws are very loose, and this leads to giving the Americans a great deal of responsibility for their actions. For example, million of Americans are jailed for breaking the law. This was due to their lack of responsibility.

In conclusion, America gives many freedoms, but with those freedoms comes responsibility. “Every American willing to work hard should be able to find a job that pays enough to support a family,” Hillary Clinton once said. As long as you work hard in America, you can be whatever you want when you grow up.
