The Title, "Faithful" by Nikki Grimes, suggests that we should remain loyal to nature. This can be inferred throughout the poem, as it is brought to the reader’s awareness how humanity has mistreated nature. A metaphor is comparing two unlike things directly. In this poem metaphors are used to convey deeper meanings, such as, the “punctured ozone layer” which suggests that there has been environmental damage done to the Earth. There are multiple literary devices used in the poem, metaphor, personification, and symbolism are just a few. These literary devices are used to emphasize the impact of human actions. The metaphors suggest damage has been done to the Earth, personification is used to help us sympathize with what is happening, and symbolism is used as a warning. ABCDEFGH: This poem does not have a particular pattern; instead it has two distinct sections suggesting the two different themes. The two themes of this poem is: Without taking accountability, one’s consequences will only grow. Unyielding resilience leads us to persevere through life’s trials
