Summary

Students analyzed poetry focusing on structure, literary devices, and theme, using the book Legacy: Women Poets of the Harlem Renaissance by Nikki Grimes, a collection and response to female Harlem Renaissance poets.

Vanish means she feels like she disappears in the night, she matters less, street lights peaking into her room feeling invisible as glass. I think all poems have a meaning you have to look for behind them. “Towards midnight, my image invisible as a glass pane” Her saying she is invisible as a glass pane is her telling us she feels unseen. If it was not for the shining stars at night nobody would see her, the street lights peeking through her blinds. Metaphor is being used, so is imagery, this connects to the message by making you envision the story as you read.”Without the brightness, you'd peer through black-blue body, skin purpling”. You imagine her at night covered in bruises, hurt. My poem doesn’t rhyme, it has the words twin, stars, through, my, purpling, pane, it all comes together to make one sentence. Two themes I found in this poem is listen to others even in the dark, and don't make people feel invisible.
