Humans of Sophomores - Luke Hernandez

I interviewed Luke Hernandez about how he became successful in soccer and the music band. He didn't want to do soccer when he was little but then joined it in middle school. He also joined the music band and is now doing both in high school.

By Miriam M. from Eureka High School in California

“When I was little, I always thought that I wasn’t going to be playing an instrument or a sport, I always thought I was just going to be doing school-related things. Once I got into middle school, I realized I wanted to change that and I started playing in a band and joined the soccer team. Joining the band helped me to enjoy performing in front of people while playing soccer helped me to become competitive. I am in high school now, I have become a band member and a competitive soccer player.”

Our Democracy

The Our Democracy Education Project is a partnership with the National Writing Project and PhotoWings. PhotoWings' mission is to help photography to be better understood, created, utilized, seen, and saved. The project is also supported by the National Geographic Society and Catchlight, and explores the question, “What does democracy look like?” through the creation of a multimedia record of the state of local, everyday democracy today.
