The American Dream Gives As It Receives

A short poem about how the American Dream should reflect your willingness to give it to others.

By Chris D. from Morehead Writing Project in Kentucky

American dreams,

We all want but don’t see,

We know what it means,

But can’t make them be.

To stand for liberty,

To live and be free,

Yet when it comes time to pay back,

Nobody wants them to be.

As a wise man once said,

Ask not what can be done for you,

Ask instead what you

For your country can do.
