What is Your American Creed

My American Creed is based on acceptance, integrity, diversity, and perseverance.

By Alyssa M. from West Baton Rouge Library in Louisiana

My American Creed is based on acceptance, integrity, diversity, and perseverance. Though there is not always evidence of it in this country, this is the foundation our ancestors built America on. Everyone in America is an immigrant, or the product of immigration which makes diversity a major part of my American Creed. Everywhere I look there’s a different face, with a different background, and a different story to tell. As different as each of these stories may be, each will be one of perseverance, because that’s what being American is: being able to persevere even when life deals you a wild hand. All of our ancestors learned perseverance, whether it was through being driven out of their old countries, seeking a life in a new one, or making the one that they were in work.
