Showing American Creed through action

My American Creed is shown through taking action to better the community and create equal opportunity amongst all. I show this through partaking in the Appalachian Service Project. This action shows the American Creed through building community, helping others, putting in hard work, and providing safe environments for the people of America. 

Buliding community is a key ideal of ASP. Making your homeowner and their family feel comfortable and proud about their home is very important. The first year I went we were able to get close to the granddaughter of the homeowner and we taught her how to braid her own hair and create friendship bracelets. The community that we create when working shows American Creed by bringing people closer together and bonding over shared customs. 

Helping others is also a huge part of the trip. Some of the families we help are in very different situations then we are here in Bay. They don't have the same access to resources as we do and because of that they can't repair damages to their houses as easily as other people. It could take them hours to travel to a store that has materials to help with flooding or damages to their house which is why it's so important to help. 

Putting in hard work is one of the most important qualities to my american creed. ASP is a lot of physical labor like repairing roofs, building ramps, and installing flooring. The past year I worked on a rooftop in 90 degree weather, we took multiple breaks and had to switch out jobs throughout the week. This hard work benefits the family and community and most importantly helps create a safe environment. 

Creating safe environments is probably the most important aspect of going on the trip. Whether it is creating dry roofs, even porches, or draining structures, having a functional home does so much to the families that we help. The security it provides helps the family feel safe and supported. The families that I have had have been extremely grateful for the work that we do for them. Being able to make them feel better about their homes and safety while also building a relationship and community around them shows my American Creed.
