My American Creed
Summary
What is my American Creed? The term American Creed describes principles of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. My American Creed ideals are valued through volunteering, participation in democracy, hard work, and helping one another.
Volunteering defines my American Creed as a way to give back to others in my community. Through volunteering, I can dedicate my time and efforts to helping my neighbors. I volunteer to make meals for families with cancer throughout my community. Doing so reminds me that because of America's ideals, I can give back to my community by helping others.
My family has always been adamant about participating in democracy. My great-great-grandfather was an Ohio senator and taught my family always to show our voice through his time serving our state and nation. I have been taught that my vote matters, and through my great-great grandfather, my family has carried on his legacy of voting and being involved in politics because our voices deserve to be heard.
Hard work has always been an important ideal that my great aunt taught me. She worked countless hours to put herself through college to receive a higher education. She worked a part-time and full-time job while also attending classes because she believed that receiving an education was worth the time, effort, hard work, and dedication she put forth. My aunt has taught me that you can achieve your goals if you work hard.
Helping one another is another ideal that is shown throughout my family. My parents and grandparents always taught my siblings and me to treat others the way they want to be treated. I was taught to help people whenever I could. This has shown through many events in my life, and I am grateful that my family taught me to always help one another.
My American Creed consists of the ideals I was taught and the principles instilled in me. My actions and way of life are based on the basic principles of the American Creed: life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
