Summary

Liberty, democracy, equality, and individual rights are all examples of American creed expressed through words and symbols.

Core values and beliefs define who we are as Americans, and set us apart from other nations. Liberty, democracy, equality, and individual rights are all examples of these beliefs that Americans practice everyday. The American creed can be seen through symbols and words.

For example, with words seen in our foundational documents, like the Bill of Rights and the Constitution. It states "We hold these truths to be self evident that all men are created equal". This line encaptures the United States commitment to equality and the natural rights that everyone has. Furthermore, through speeches and writings, such as Abrahams Lincoln's Gettysburg address and Martin Luther King Jr's "I Have a Dream" speech. Throughout school we are taught these famous speeches, and their important meaning. Lincoln's speech teaches the audience that equality and liberty are the foundation of this nation, and it is the duty of the living to continue on upholding what people in the past have fought for. In MLK's speech it teaches the audience to strive for their dreams as MLK did for racial equality, civil rights, and justice for everyone. Not only is the American creed exemplified through words, but also symbols.

Secondly, symbolic examples uphold our American creed and exemplify citizens' morals. The well-known rich blue, with bright white stars, and the deep red stripes contrasted with the white stripes symbolizes the unity and resilience of America. This flag represents freedom, democracy, and the sacrifices people have made for it. People have fought, and will continue to serve to protect this flag. It demonstrates how proud people are to be from America and the passion that is shared for this flag. Another key symbol of the American creed is the Statue of Liberty. It is now a symbol for freedom and democracy. As she stands in Upper New York Bay, she has welcomed thousands into America, with her right hand raised as she holds a torch and clutches a tablet in her left. She represents the welcoming spirit of America and as a beacon of hope for immigrants.

Overall, words and symbols all exemplify American creed, encapsulating the nation's foundational values. Such as liberty, equality, democracy, and individualism. Through foundational documents and speeches by famous leaders, and symbols like the American flag, and Statue of Liberty, these elements remind citizens of their collective responsibility to each other to preserve core values of America.
