Summary

Equality?

One America wakes up behind gated driveways,

the smell of crispy bacon,

college brochures scattered across the kitchen table,

a life ironed flat, without wrinkles or risk.

The other wakes to the hum of a broken heater,

in cracked plastered walls,

and with a teetering tower of unpaid bills.

One teaches their children to dream big,

while another teaches to survive.

One lives on Starbucks and Lululemon,

another on food stamps and hand me downs.

One waits for the weekend,

another for better days.

One hates their job,

another hates being unemployed.

One America is overweight,

another is skin and bones.

They say we are One America,

united in opportunity and freedom,

but how can we really be One,

living with such inequalities?
