My American Creed - Poem

This poem depicts a few essential aspects of my American Creed, the American will to go on and fight, the charitable nature of the nation, the freedom of the American people, and the land of opportunities that is the United States.

By Nikolas W. from Bay High School in Ohio

Land of the free and home of the brave,

Words we tell ourselves every day.

We fight for our freedoms, at home and abroad,

We fight with a uniquely American will to go on.

We try not to forget the things that we have,

Giving to those with whom others don’t share.

We work hard and play hard at every moment,

Because we live in a land which rewards it.

We live in a land of plurality,

Where the thought of freedom is practically a formality.

Our voices are heard through all means of expression,

The peoples’ demands met, with reluctance or embrace.

We live in a land of potential,

Potential for good, for bad, for greatness or for disaster.

We live in a domain of which we are the master.

America is and always will be,

A land from which the people will live as they please.

Freedoms protected, rights secured,

American life comes from hearts so pure.

My American Creed may be different than yours,

But the American Creed at all stems from this being a land of open doors.
