Summary

Americans should listen and be heard.

My American Creed is that society should listen more to each other because it brings America closer.

When people listen to each other, it builds connections. You may not agree with someone about one thing, but it’s always good to know. When you think about putting a Democrat and a Republican together in a room, bad things come to mind like fights, arguments, etc. However, maybe that is not the case. If they spend more time together and talk about their beliefs, they may grow a closer connection and even a deeper understanding.

When people listen to each other, we have a deeper understanding of the world. All over the news, they show the bad rather than the good. Democrats are fighting for women's rights to abortion while Republicans are fighting back, saying that the Democrats are wrong for harming infants. This leads to escalated conflicts like protests and riots. Americans have no choice but to lash out because they feel they are not being heard. Feeling heard makes someone feel like their opinion matters. The founding fathers gave Americans the freedom to say and do whatever they believe in, yet people are still trying to take it away. If we listen and understand why the side believes in one thing, we may realize that our beliefs are not all different.

When people listen to each other, it can dissolve conflicting viewpoints. In the documentary, a Democrat and Republican decided to bring some friends to meet up. They started talking to each other to get to know one another, then about controversial topics to see where they stood. Later on, they realized there was more in common than they thought. After listening to each other for some time, the differences were out of the question and they just saw each other as friends. Not only did they listen to each other's viewpoints on the world but also how they lived.

When people listen to each other, it helps us to learn new cultures. Sitting down and listening to someone’s culture is a good way to know what happens worldwide. It opens your eyes to new perspectives. America is a melting pot of different cultures and ethnicities that many will not understand. The Christian faith has many rituals and cultures. Catholics follow lots more rules than Baptists, but they all believe in the same God. You may realize that all those goals of different parties come to one belief, to be part of a free country. Having differences allows the world to make mistakes, grow, and change.

Overall, understanding and believing that Americans should listen to each other is important because it brings people closer and builds for a better future.
