A Grandfather's Creed of Liberty
Summary
This is a poem which describes actions of my grandfather, Norman Spolar, and his commitment to the American ideal of liberty.
Grandpa Norman Spolar, he cherished liberty's flame,
An American creed he lived, true to his name.
He marched for workers' rights, through rain and through heat,
Defending the voiceless, never accepting defeat.
His bookstore housed banned books, a beacon of free thought,
Where every idea, suppressed or not, could be sought.
When neighbors were wronged, he’d offer his aid,
Vouching for the innocent, ensuring justice stayed.
At home, all views were welcome, debate was always free,
For Grandpa knew that liberty thrives on diversity.
Norman Spolar, a guardian of the free,
His life is a testament to the liberty creed.
