My American Creed
Summary
John F. Kennedy once said, “My fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.” Being an American is about being free and having freedom, but abiding with the responsibilities that come with it.
To begin with, living in America gives you freedom to have your own religion, freedom of speech, having your own job opportunities, and many other opportunities. Most immigrants come to America to escape the doghouse they have been put into by their past country. Jose Fernandez came to America on a boat from Cuba so he could live a free life away from the restraints from their government. Eddie Van Halen also immigrated from the Netherlands to America so his family could have freedom.
In addition, with great power comes great responsibility. Even though we have freedom, we have to take care of the responsibilities that come with it. If you abuse your freedom you lose being deemed responsible. Andrew Johnson was impeached by the United states house of representatives for abusing his power and freedom. He lost his title as president and all the responsibilities that came with it.
To conclude, being an American is about having power but being responsible about what you do with it. When you speak, practice your religion,or even at night when you are sleeping in your bed with a roof over your head think about how lucky you are to have freedom.
