Democracy

Democracy in our daily lives

By Brandan E. from Williamson High School in Pennsylvania

Democracy is represented by this lamp in many ways. The power that allows for the bulb to shine is just like how our government has branches that control what laws pass that effect our daily lives. The power has to be sent from electrical lines to the outlets and then to the cord which will allow for it to shine. Without the process for this in government there would be little improvement for us. This is why different branches like the legislative, executive, and judicial all control and have a hand in what goes in our democracy. Without these branches there would not be an easy or valid way for laws and checking of power on other brances to proceed. We need them to ensure that national parks are protected all the way to homeland security. The utmost importance of democracy to be upheld is validated by the number of lives it would effect if it fell. As well as working as a cohesive unit to allow for continued growth in the United States makes democracy one of the most important things in my life and all American lives. The analogy for this lamp representing democracy is a dorrway for many examples of how the foundation of our nation and the lives of our people are protected by democracy. Without it there would be little protection and room for life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness that was said to be upheald by the Declaration of Independence, This Is why democracy is everywhere in our daily lives.
